About Eighty-Five

Preserve, organize, and amplify human intelligence.

Eighty-Five is The Evolution of AnalogTM — a software company focused on preserving, structuring, retrieving, and operationalizing intelligence across humans, organizations, and machines.

Our Mission

Our mission is to preserve, organize, and amplify human intelligence. Our vision is to build the infrastructure that helps humans and AI work together.

We are translators between human intelligence and artificial intelligence — explaining unfamiliar technologies through familiar concepts while building systems that enable knowledge to move between people, organizations, and machines. The tools change. The principles do not.

The Intelligence Continuum

Nature, humans, organizations, and AI systems all depend on the same fundamental principle: intelligence emerges from structure. Whether the system is biological or digital, performance depends on how information is organized, retrieved, and applied. ARKIVE is the infrastructure at the center of this continuum.

Language Is Data

The Art and Science of Compression

We like to think of language as expression — creative, fluid, human. But underneath, language is structure. It is chunked, structured and and compressed into scalable information.

Across human performance, SEO, and AI, the same rule applies: raw input must be organized and compressed into structured representations before it can be useful, retrievable, or scalable.

From the Field to the Feed

In performance, nothing works without structure.

A novice athlete sees noise: feet, hands, timing, defender, ball. An expert sees a pattern: slant route.

That shift isn't just experience, it's compressed information. The brain compresses complexity into structured representations. Motor programs, schemas, and chunks: this is how performance advances from novice to elite. Elite athletes use highlighly organized and compressed information chunks to make movement, decision-making, and performance faster and more accurate.

SEO Was Never About Keywords

Search engines forced the same realization. The early web was chaos — pages, text, links. Then came structure: metadata, schema markup, internal linking systems, semantic relationships.

Google didn't get smarter by reading more content. It got smarter by understanding structured content. SEO evolved from keywords → entities, pages → graphs, content → context.

Machines Don't Read — They Map

AI (Large language models) don't "understand" language the way we do. They embed it. Every word, phrase, and document becomes a vector — a position in structured space.

Meaning is no longer defined by words alone, but by relationships: proximity, similarity, clustering, hierarchy. This is the same principle as motor learning — repeated patterns become compressed representations, and compressed representations enable faster decisions.

LLMs are not magic. They are structure engines.

Why This Matters Now

We are entering a world where humans must communicate with machines, machines must interpret human intent, and systems must scale across both.

The bottleneck is no longer access to information. It's how well that information is structured. If your ideas aren't compressed into structured representations, they can't be searched, retrieved, learned or scaled.

Different systems. Same rule: intelligence emerges from structured data.

Kate Engard, Founder of Eighty-Five

“Every intelligent system is a reflection of the intelligence that came before it. From nature to humans, and now from humans to machines, progress depends on our ability to preserve, structure, and transfer what we know.”

About The Founder

Building the human side of the intelligence continuum

Kate's foundation is in biological science and cell biology, with postgraduate training in kinesiology and applied sports science. She has spent 15+ years as an educator — teaching practitioners to think clearly about complex systems before reaching for new tools.

Her work bridges the natural world and the machine world: applying machine learning, NLP, and statistical modeling to projects from injury risk prediction to sentiment analysis and social listening — always grounded in how living systems organize, adapt, and learn.

Our Principles

Intelligence emerges from structured data

We are confident, curious, and practical. Our work is grounded in first principles — not fear marketing or AI hype.

Structure Creates Capability
Intelligence emerges from how information is organized, retrieved, and applied — in nature, in people, and in machines.
The Evolution of Analog™
We explain unfamiliar technologies through familiar concepts, reducing fear through understanding and replacing hype with literacy.
Education First
We build trust through practical, evidence-based education. From courses and Live Labs to the human intelligence side of our continuum.
Infrastructure, Not Hype
We are a software company. ARKIVE SDK is our flagship product for preserving and operationalizing intelligence across teams and systems.

Human -- Machine Continuum

Courses and Live Labs are structured education for the biological side of the intelligence continuum — learning, expertise, performance, and decision-making in practice.
